    I Have A Growth Mindset

    Over the course of the year we are going to spend time learning about the importance of our Mindset. Do we have a Growth mindset or a Fixed Mindset? We will have in class discussions, activities, watch short videos and find out how to practice the Growth Mindset. Get ready to have fun learning about how you learn.

    Reading Literacy

    The Literacy-10 course has been designed to link elementary reading and writing instruction, providing students with the necessary skills to become independent readers and competent, creative writers. It is built on “best practice” research and is aligned with the Common Core Curriculum Standards. Instruction is designed to move students from guided to independent learning in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Through the use of a 90 minute reading/writers’ workshop approach OR two 45-minute periods, daily, students will participate in daily reading and writing activities. Workshop practices will include a combination of mini-lessons and large group instruction, small group work and individual activities.

    Math

    The Elementary Mathematics-10 course is designed for the student who has mastered the Elementary Mathematics-9 outcomes or the equivalent thereof. The student will master the course, as it is a prerequisite for engagement in Elementary Mathematics-11. This course is aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics. The fundamental principles guiding this approach are included in the CCSS Mathematical Practices shown below.

    Cultural Studies

    Cultural Studies-10 has been designed to introduce the world to 10-year-old student, connecting it to main events in history, through a global perspective and help to the student understand the changes that led to major ideas, political and religious beliefs. Basic geographic skills are related to the course outcomes.

    Science

    The Science-10 course is designed for the 10-Year-Old Class. This course is designed for the student who has mastered the Elementary Science-9 Essential Units or the equivalent thereof. In this course students will be actively involved in using the scientific process to learn about life science, physical science, and earth science. Essential components and criteria for mastery of the scientific process should include question/problem/purpose, prediction or hypothesis, planning (data collection device), data/observations, claims/evidence/reasoning, conclusions and next steps/new questions.

    Library

     The Library-10 course is divided into two essential units, which the student must master.  There are additional selective units, which can be pursued optionally as a class or as individual enrichment.  Librarians are encouraged to work in collaboration with classroom teachers to have the greatest impact on student achievement.
